I’m Mike DeJong—a husband, father, and longtime resident of Jackson County. I’ve dedicated my life to serving others, and I’m proud to call this community home.

My wife Kayla and I were both raised here, and we’re now raising our son in the same community that shaped us. Our roots run deep, and we’re grateful to be surrounded by family and friends.

I have dedicated my career to protecting and serving our communities, building over two decades of experience in corrections, law enforcement, and fire service.

I began in 2004 as a Correctional Officer with Nobles County, where I quickly rose into a leadership role as a Sergeant. In that position, I supervised staff, managed high-risk situations, and ensured the safety and security of both officers and inmates. These early years shaped my leadership style—focused on accountability, communication, and leading by example.

In 2008, I took the next step in my career by serving as a part-time Deputy with Rock County before earning a full-time opportunity in law enforcement. This experience broadened my skills on patrol and strengthened my commitment to community-based policing.

At the same time, I answered the call to serve as a firefighter in Luverne from 2009 to 2016. Working in fire service reinforced the importance of teamwork, quick decision-making, and staying calm under pressure—qualities that continue to guide me today.

In 2016, an opportunity to serve in Jackson County allowed us to return home—where we are proud to raise our son in the same communities that shaped our values and commitment to service.

Since 2016, I have served as a Deputy with Jackson County while continuing my service in the fire department. In this role, I have built strong relationships within the community, responded to critical incidents, and work every day to keep our neighborhoods safe.

My career has been defined by stepping into leadership roles, taking on new challenges, and always putting the community first. I am running for Sheriff to bring that same commitment, experience, and steady leadership to the Sheriff’s Office—ensuring it remains professional, proactive, and focused on serving the people of Jackson County.

I would be honored to earn your trust and your vote as the next Jackson County Sheriff.
